Buenos Aires -> Madrid -> Barcelona

May 20, 2014

Europe finally happened.

Francisco and I had a month together, parted ways in Rome, and I continued with girlfriends for another month of London, France & Amsterdam before returning to Buenos Aires.

It was all very exciting.

The story begins in Spain, where I find myself drooling over pictures of seafood and daydreaming about the endless olives, Rioja and late nights with good friends acting like silly children jacked up on candy.

Speaking of friends, this is how we unexpectedly found them at the airport when we arrived in Barcelona after our overnight flight.

Emotions quickly escalated and never seemed to calm down.

We’re an eclectic mix- the girls from Spain & The Canary Islands, three Argentinos and me, the Southern porteña gringa.

We all stayed together in Fort Pienc near Barceloneta where Joacqo and Sarah live.  Like all good friends who live far apart we were inseparable and very chatty.

We ate until we couldn’t fit anymore and laughed til our cheeks hurt.

Another highlight of Barcelona was that Tez arrived by train the same day Francisco and I did!   Tez is my bff from Argentina, although a Cali girl currently on the road and studying yoga & meditation in India for the next months.  You could say that together we’re… double trouble to the max!

I mean is there anything better than exploring new territory with your favorite people?!  I think not.

Full of jet lag and little food we headed to the coast for our first of many meals Spanish meals.

We grabbed a table facing the sea and ordered claras (beer with lemon) and albariños while snacking on olives and gherkin before covering the Spanish basics.

And loads and loads of bocata and crispy rabas followed by local aperitivos to help digest.

After lunch we hit the streets and found ourselves in a new wine & tapas bar, a perfect escape as the rain started.

We munched on olives and sipped vermu a local drink of homemade vermouth, citrus and olives.

We ran home in the rain stopping at the vegetable stand to stock up for the nights dinner.

Melon prepared savory lentils and Sarah cooked the best (and biggest) tortilla de papas I’ve ever had in my life.

Slowly but surely we made it to bed excited for the next days adventures.

Barcelona, you did good.
